Things to do in Jindabyne in winter: Beyond the snow

You don't need fresh snow to enjoy a winter escape in Jindabyne. While everyone is eagerly watching the forecast, there are plenty of ways to experience the beauty of the Snowy Mountains both on and off the slopes. Whether you're travelling with family, friends or as a couple, here's our guide to making the most of your winter stay at Camber Jindabyne.

Relax and recharge at a sauna

One of our favourite ways to unwind after a day exploring the Snowies is with a sauna session.

Our top recommendation is Snowy Sauna, a beautiful wood-fired floating sauna located right on the shores of Lake Jindabyne. Alternate between the warmth of the sauna and a refreshing cold plunge in the lake for a truly unique alpine experience.

If you're looking for a wellness-focused experience, Revive Jindabyne also offers infrared sauna sessions, along with massage and recovery treatments that are perfect after a day on the mountain.

Our recommendation: Book ahead during winter as both venues are extremely popular.

Explore Lake Jindabyne

The lake may be too chilly for a swim, but it's perfect for scenic walks, peaceful photography and a quiet picnic on a sunny winter day. Kids will love skipping stones, spotting ducks and breathing in the fresh alpine air.

Our favourite walk is the Lake Jindabyne Foreshore Trail, starting from Banjo Paterson Park. The lakeside path offers beautiful mountain views and the playground makes it an easy outing if you're travelling with young children.

Our recommendation: Grab a takeaway coffee and enjoy a leisurely morning stroll before the town gets busy.

Take a walk (yes, even in winter!)

Many of the lower altitude walking trails remain accessible throughout winter, making them a great option on non-ski days.

The Lake Jindabyne Foreshore Trail and Thredbo River Track both offer beautiful scenery without requiring a full-day adventure.

Another favourite is the easy walk around the Gaden Trout Hatchery, where you can learn about the Snowy Mountains' trout breeding program while enjoying the peaceful riverside setting.

Local markets & shopping

Spend a relaxed morning exploring Jindabyne's boutique stores, local produce and cosy cafés. It's the perfect way to support local businesses while picking up gifts, winter essentials or something special to remember your trip.

Some of our favourite places include:

  • Birchwood Café for beautiful healthy food made with quality ingredients and excellent coffee.

  • Design & Detail for beautiful homewares and gifts.

  • Little Maple, right next door, for gorgeous children's clothing and toys.

  • Alpine Collective in Thredbo for premium alpine apparel and lifestyle products.

  • Jindabyne Sports for ski gear, clothing and anything you may have forgotten to pack.

Wine, cheese & fireside views

If you're travelling with friends or as a couple, a leisurely afternoon tasting local food and drinks is hard to beat.

Visit Shut the Gate Wines in nearby Berridale or enjoy schnapps, gin and delicious lunches at Wildbrumby Distillery, complete with roaring fireplaces and spectacular mountain views.

If you don't mind venturing a little further, Dalgety Brewing Company is one of the region's hidden gems. The relaxed country atmosphere and locally brewed beers make it well worth the drive.

Our recommendation: Combine Wildbrumby with a scenic drive through Crackenback Valley for one of our favourite winter afternoons.

Indoor fun & adventure

If the weather isn't cooperating, there are still plenty of ways to keep everyone entertained.

Challenge your group at Escape Rooms Jindabyne, or head to the Thredbo Leisure Centre where you'll find indoor climbing, court sports, and a heated indoor pool that's perfect for families.

These activities are ideal rest days between skiing or for younger children who need a break from the cold.

Movie nights at Camber

After a day of exploring, there's nothing better than returning to Camber Jindabyne for a cosy movie night with hot chocolate in hand.

Our generous living spaces are made for relaxing together, whether you're curled up by the fire watching a family favourite or enjoying a quiet evening after dinner.

Our recommendation: Pick up local cheeses, snacks and a bottle of wine before heading back to create the ultimate winter night in.
